Subject: Corona v1.0 Released for 3dsmax!

The incredible Corona Render engine is now in it's first official release!  This marks the end of the free beta, but version 1.0 is quite simply one of the most incredible engines out there, already.  New features in this non-beta release include:

  • Interactive, "real-time" rendering in the viewport, using exactly the same engine as the final frame rendering, for accurate, progressive results.
  • SSS and Volumetric Scattering.  This is what kept me from using it on organics. Problem solved.
  • GGX Microfacet BRDF for easy, ultra-realistic metals.

... and many other improvements or additions to existing features!  You can use the trial without any restrictions for 45 days!  The pricing thereafter is also MORE than fair.  Licensing is only $23/month, or pre-pay for a full year at $262 (12 months), which includes 3 render nodes for networking.  There's also an option to buy unlimited, non-renewable version for about $500, but I think the leasing option is best for a render engine which will likely update regularly over the next year.

In my opinion, the best path tracing CPU render engine, at the lowest cost.

I should point out, if you do not intend to purchase this render engine in 45 days, given the very flexible and fair payment options, I believe you can continue using the free, Corona Alpha V6 renderer, forever!  Yes, as generous as it sounds, the guys at Corona are offering the V6 version, which is still a very powerful render engine, free of charge!  So don't install the full version trial, if you don't think you will have the money to buy it in 45 days.  You can still use the free version, with some of the minor bugs and limitations (no SSS or network rendering), eternally, if you wish.  The free Corona V6 is still a very fast unbiased path tracing engine, and delivers incredible results.

Can I read notes?  Hell, there ain't no notes to a banjo. You just play it.

I think this is probably the most important new feature:

UHD Cache: new biased caching solution. This cache is very similar to the good old HD cache, but it produces less bias, and does not flicker in animations, even when no precomputation is used.

This could make Corona viable for beauty shots in production.
