Subject: Hotkeys for Move/Rotate/Size/Frame in Brush Tile Setup?

n-i-c-l-a-s ( ) posted Thu, 30 April 2015 at 10:01 PM · edited Fri, 29 March 2024 at 2:41 PM

Hi everyone! I just finished my first small project in Blacksmith3d (had lots of fun :)) and found that I was switching between the "Move"/"Rotate"/"Size"/"Frame"-modes in the Brush Tile Setup frequently. Is it possible to assign hotkeys for these? While I can define a hotkey for all the buttons in the Blacksmith3d-GUI, it does not seem to be possible to do that for checkboxes. Are there maybe predefined ones I havent found yet? Even better would be "toggle"-hotkeys, switching to another mode as long as the hotkey is pressed and then defaulting to "move".

Thanks in advance!

file_ec8956637a99787bd197eacd77acce5e.pnThere are reserved Hot Keys for Move (F1), zoom (F2), and rotate (F3) that should work regardless of what mode, tool or utility you are using.  The reserved Hot Keys are found under the "Manage" tab, double click Hot Keys at the bottom and then double click "Reseved" to see the list. Here is a partial listing.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your quick reply, much appreciated!

Unfortunately, those were not the functions I was referring to. Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I meant, were the checkboxes, defining the behaviour of clicking and dragging during brush tile view. I made a screenshot:

Theoretically, I could probably do the same thing by using "Auto align with viewport" and then rotating the camera around the figure (instead of rotating the brush image) with the hotkeys you recommended. But I found, that I quickly got confused about where I am when changing the camera too much during painting, especially if I zoom in very close.

If you'd be so kind to look at my project  ( http://hivewire3d.com/gallery/#/Contests/HiveWire%203D%20Dusk%20Rendering%20Competition/Vincent%20by%20n-i-c-l-a-s.jpg ), you might see why I needed this feature so frequently. Lots of directional brushstrokes there.

On the other hand, I just discovered the "texture picker" feature last night in the manual (I just got Blacksmith3d last week, so I still dont know all its features) and it is possible that this will work even better for me, I'm gonna try it tonight.

However, I want to thank you for creating this software, it really is a lot of fun! I will probably use it a lot in the future

Ah, I see what you mean.  Yep, your Van Gogh definitely needs a lot of size, move and rotate. Your project turned out very well and I'm glad you shared it with us.  We really enjoy seeing the outcome when people use our software.

Thanks very much for your kind words, I am glad you like it. It wouldnt have been possible without Blacksmith3d :) . I always wanted to try texturing a character manually, but  to paint directly on a texture map with standard 2d-painting tools is not a lot of fun IMO. Everytime I tried I got annoyed very quickly because of the weird stretching of polygons and too much trial and error. In contrast, texturing in Blacksmith3d feels like painting to me and I had really fun texturing "my Vincent". Thanks for creating this software, you are doing a great job!

I still think it would be great if Blacksmith would allow assigning hotkeys to the options in the Brush Tile Setup, so if that's at all possible I would love to see it in a future update. No hurry though ;)

I have added it to our wishlist! :)
