Subject: DAZ STUDIO TO BLENDER

I am trying to upload to Blender via Daz studio 4.7 Although I have had some success with Blender and Daz I cannot seem to grasp the concept of Importing the OBJ files and make them work to create my own clothing and hair styles. I import to Blender using the preset configs, And either my GEN 2 female is very small and off front ortho view.Also if I upload to blender just basic hair it is grouped with the gen 2 headand one is way above the model. Am i suppose to ungroup the objects before i export them??

Here is a recent blend I did ( I had to dload 3rd person content though which is pretty expensive so I am taking this route

Do not choose the Blender option in Studio for exporting or importing, they are wrong.  Use Custom and 100% scale and make sure none of the axis have been swapped.

I wrote a tutorial some time ago that was primarily for Poser but most of the steps can be duplicated in Daz to achieve the same thing and I do agree with jestmart do not use the blender options with in Daz studio. I know we have had several post in the Blender forum that you can search that others have contributed some very useful information on how to model for Daz Studio with in Blender. Create Clothing Manikin/Doll In Blender

As to exporting to OBJ it would depend on which figure you will be modeling for from my understanding with the G1 and G2 figures there are perhaps some extra steps unlike V4 or some of the older Daz characters I found that this tutorial on Deviant Art by someone who does allot of Daz modeling with in Blender that might be a useful resource for you also G1G2 Clothing in Blender 1 He has a 4 part tutorial it is all written out very view screen shots but his writing style is very detailed hopefully it will give even more insight and help as well.  Good Luck

Have you tried using MCJ's TeleBlender script.  Works wonderfully.  Exports a complete scene from DS, automatically opens Blender with the scene all set and mats optimised for Cycles.  You could simply send over an unposed figure.

Yes using the MCJ's TeleBlender script is a great tool also but if not mistaken it is primarily for when you are ready for a final render there is also a set of scripts on Blender Artist called the Khalibloo Panel which is an add on for Blender that you can use for importing from Daz to Blender to make morphs but I could be wrong is limited to only the Genesis 2 figures. The advantage is you will be importing an already rigged figure which you can create morph targets for but with some tweaking you can use that same imported figure to model clothing on. Follow and read thru the Khalibloo Panel thread on Blender Artist it is very active and many questions about how the script works and it is updated frequently.

Yes, you are correct - it is intended for rendering a DS scene with Cycles, but also great for a simple method of getting a figure - any figure - into Blender to be used as a mannikin.

The Khalibloo plugin looks very interesting - needs a lot of studying to comprehend the full impact.  Thanks for pointing it out :)

Using MCJ's TeleBlender script might be a useful tool to get a model into Blender and then using as a Mankin just wonder if it would import the figure with its group names like when you export from Poser. I am still getting my head around Daz on a whole. The Khalibloo plugin has a lot to offer but you do need to go thru the instructions which there is a bit and there are 3 different zip files to install as add on to Blender but in the Blender Add on setting but you will only see the Khalibloo plugin as one add on to activate the additional scripts add functionality to the main script. I need to spend a weekend working thru both scripts to become more fimilar with how each works and pro's and con's on each.

No, MCJ's plugin doesn't give you group names - you no longer need those for making clothing in DS, because the transfer utility does it all for you.  Don't know about Poser, though - I don't use it.

Thank you for that bit of information I did not know that you did not need the group names for Daz. With Poser you still need the group names and using them as the standard work flow for so long it just part of the process. I have both Poser and Daz Studio and use them both. But thank you again for the information

Ok i am having a problem in the grab and conform mode. When I use the mirror there is a distinct line that is cut out from my charector which i need to fill, Also when i use the grab and conform it doesnt seem to conform to my gen2 model. Would it be easier to click on the whole area and join then copy the area and delete from the area (ie shirt )

Ok I got it didn't know for everything to be changed you have to keep on bouncing from edit to object mode GRR kind of painstaking.. Now if I wanted to add a material instead of the solid red render color how would one achieve this?? Also when I import back to DAZ my scale is off ( I am importing as obj custom 5000%
