Subject: is Texture Transformer for Dawn worth it?

Opinions on this product? Not really favored in reviews on the product page.

If you are converting your favorite or many textures for V4 to Dawn than it is worth owning the product.  However, for as long as Texture Transformer has been out, only 3 figures are supported: Dawn, Roxie, and Genesis 2 Female.  This is very disappointing.  With many other figures, including males, the updating process is taking way too long.

Here's a sample I did with Paris. It didn't do well with Dawn's corneas or eyelashes. for this sample I made the corneas and party lashes invisible and the regular lashes I had to add color. They were showing white. I haven't used it extensively so I don't know how well it converts complicated shaders. For this sample I used Paris simple Fashion liner. It basically only converts the images. It doesn't save anything else, so I ran both through ezskin to get a similar shader for good comparison. And it saves a pose mat file so you don't have to apply all the textures yourself.

As hborre said, if you're interested in it for the current supported figures, go for it. But there is limited figure support and I don't know how many more figures, if any will be added. I do remember reading a request for someone but the creators didn't feel the figure was worth the effort. I can't tell you who the figure was. And it doesn't mean there won't be any more figures added. There was a bit of a wait between each figure but I can't say if it was an unreasonable one since I have no idea what goes into making the support for each figure. It just seems interminably long to those of us waiting.

TT can also do V4 to Genesis 2 Female.  I was hoping once Dusk was released, they would add M4 to Rex, Dusk and Genesis 2 Male.  Especially since there is very little available for Rex and Dusk.

They are open to suggestions and one would hope M4 conversions become part of the software.  As for complicated shaders, no, the software will only convert the textures ignoring any shader nodes in the MAT Zones.  It is better to simplify textures on the donor figure, transform, then run EZSkin on the target figure.  Less likely to introduce errors in the conversion.

The latest version of Blacksmith 3D Pro includes the TT dev tools to make your own conversion files, so you're free to make conversions between whatever figures you like. It's not a short and simple process, but the tools are available.

Picked it up yesterday.  Would not have bought it at full price. Maybe if they include more transfoms and the ability to transform more maps at once it would be worth the $50 they want for it. Secondly, I think it needs an update and to get away from having to use a .cr2 file for conversions. Should be able to just point it at a map and have it do it's thing. Texture Converter is way easier to use and the files go where you want them to when it's done. TT dumps the texture files into a folder in your pose folder. Making me have to move all the new files. Seems counter intuitive. At least it it converts the textures ok.

A more simple way is to put the output in the textures folder and just move the pz2 file to poses :D

Gen4g2Mat is a script developed be D3D and found @ sharecg.com will convert V4 textures to G2F creating a pz2 file for easy application.  Downside, you need to copy the mat files from the torso and paste into ear material zone for Genesis 2.

Vaskania ( ) posted Sun, 24 May 2015 at 11:42 AM

No. It does not convert the textures. It only readies the material presets for use on g2f. It doesn't touch the UVs or maps at all.., and requires you to own the V4 for G2F uv product at daz.

TT actually converts maps from one UV to another, not just renames material zones in a preset file.

TT and Gen4G2 are two completely different animals.

You're correct and I forgot to add that to my post.  However, there is a free set of G2 UV templates @ sharecg which will also do that for you.  It's a matter of convenience I suppose.  I really do need to test drive the TT V4 to G2F conversion, has the application updated but not utilized lately.

Hi,I just purchased and installed Texture Transformer. I have installed the data files for both V4 to Roxie and V4 to G2.WhenI open the program the only option I am getting is to convert V4 to Roxie. Is anyone familiar with this program that can help me how to install all the data files? There does not seem a contact email for the vendor on the market page! Cheers

I didn't have that problem with it but I may not have loaded the Roxy module and didn't even download the G2 module.

just a few comments about TT now that I've used it a bit. The eye textures are pretty much useless. Probably due to Dawn's funky eye geometry. I had to resort to making my own eye maps with larger pupils so the iris texture wont look like it's falling down a pit. Dawn's thick eye lids can look like they are glowing if you don't darken them up a bit after transforming. I used the burn tool in Photoshop to do this. I guess that wouldn't be a problem with a dark eye makeup texture but then what women apply makeup to the part of their eyelids that touch the eyeball?

Hivewire3d would do well to either create or underwrite more conversion tools for its figures

Interesting. So, if one were to make a texture conversion from M4 to Rex, would the conversion files then be redistributable? Or is this only for personal use?

If so, then maybe someone other than the original devs could make the conversions for the other figures.
