Subject: 'Tis for the Glory #11 - 'Incongruity'

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Tue, 26 May 2015 at 8:44 AM · edited Mon, 08 April 2024 at 8:11 PM

Yeah, baby. de3an took challenge #10 and showed us how it's done. How it's done that is if you have talent, time and Carrara. By saying that, I don't mean to denigrate the other entries, but you know, I make this stuff up as I go along and try to insult everyone equally. Because equality is important.

De3an put his trusty thinking cap on and came up with our next challenge subject:

How about this for the next challenge?

"Incongruity"

(or,  One of these things is not like the others.)

Create a scene where something is obviously out of place or doesn't belong in the depicted environment.

To help with your creative flow, check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FClGhto1vIg

You can't use the subject at the youtube link because that would be copying. And besides, they did it better than any of us could.

Have fun!

I tried to make this incongruity ( yep, I googled it to make sure ) as hard as I could.... but if you study it closely you should be able to pick it :-)

I made this image quite some time ago. But since I'm not competing this round I'll post it anyway.

Maybe it will help give someone some ideas.

I guess my theme must be unpopular  :-(

Anyway, here's one with more of an "incongruous" slant.

I like your theme - I have an idea but haven't had any time to work on it this week - hopefully Saturday morning.  Also, awesome image.

de3an ( ) posted Thu, 28 May 2015 at 8:31 PM

Maybe one week is too short of a time span to get much participation??

Mythic3D ( ) posted Thu, 28 May 2015 at 9:33 PM

I don't know - I personally like these short challenges - it forces me to just pick an idea and do it instead of overthinking and being precious about it.  I don't know about anyone else, but when I have more time I just keep messing around with it endlessly, making never ending little changes to shaders and lighting and camera angles.  It's nice sometimes to just take something "just good enough" to get across the idea and throw it out there.  That's not to say that I don't spend thought and time on these, but I'm not worrying about meeting some internal standard of perfection when there is a rapidly approaching deadline.

This week has just been a bit crazy.

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Fri, 29 May 2015 at 7:37 AM

I'm working on one that I'll hopefully have up today. I've had almost zero spare time the last four weeks. But I love the theme!

evilproducer ( ) posted Fri, 29 May 2015 at 7:03 PM

I'll stick this one and see if it gets "modded" like it did at DAZ.

I was thinking of calling it, Not Miss Piggy or perhaps, Being Green is "Hard." ;-)

evilproducer ( ) posted Fri, 29 May 2015 at 7:07 PM

Okay.... What did I do wrong for the image? I had no error message, but I see no image. What are the size and format requirements?

DUDU.car ( ) posted Sat, 30 May 2015 at 4:14 AM

EP, I think you must wait until the image appears in your post before submit.

The size ? I don't know but I had a picture with 2k pixels width (pano) and it was ok.

A celebrity who tries to learn Spanish in Antartic.

I don't have much time nor of inspiration this week…

Here all the same something completely incongruous and stupid which comes to my mind, perhaps because of this topic? I don't know :

All-righty then! I shall give it another go!

"Not Miss Piggy," or if you prefer, "It's Hard Being Green."

It's Hermit the Amphibian going to town with Vicky on a Steampunk airship. Hermit is my own model and rigging, Vickie's skin is procedural and the eyelashes, and eyebrows are dynamic hair. The head hair is by PhilW. THe airship is by Petipet. Lots of texture work on the airship and clothes. I especially am pleased with how the fabric looks on the shirt.

Twisted humor. I see nothing wrong with twisted humor. And, there's a bunch of it in this thread.

Apparently they didn't like that Hermit was groping V4, and that Hermit was a recognizable figure from childhood loved by millions. Supposedly it was a unanimous decision by the gallery moderator team at DAZ. I decided to delete my gallery but their gallery/website software wouldn't let me, so I renamed my gallery F.U. Mods- then it was able to be deleted, although not by me. ;-) They didn't like it that I also called them hypocrites and sent them link after link to skankware they sell in their store, including a fair amount of naughty schoolgirl items, all with suggestive promo images and poses. But that's all water under the bridge at this point.

Mythic3D ( ) posted Sat, 30 May 2015 at 7:25 PM

My first idea was to do something with negative lights and colored shadows, but I couldn't make it work the way I pictured.  So, keeping with my original shadow idea here's a quicky - this one isn't great either but it's something.

I figured out what part of my shadow problem was and fixed it, but apparently once you close the window you can't edit your post anymore. :(

Still not perfect, but a little bit better...

So, Jon, the incongruity in this scene is that one of the dudes is actually a chick? ;-)

jonstark ( ) posted Mon, 01 June 2015 at 2:27 AM

lol  I can hear Austin Powers saying "It's a man, baby!"   He does look awfully strange.  This is one of those render ideas that didn't work out at all the way I envisioned, and really didn't work very well period, sadly.   Probably a real stretch to try to throw it into an 'Incongruity' theme, but I thought maybe the fantasy vs. sci-fi might loosely fit and I had nothing else lying around.  I'm never quick enough off the blocks thinking of a new idea that might fit one of these challenges, then maybe 2 weeks later I'll get an idea but the challenge is done and onto the next one, so I thought I'd throw this into the mix just to be able to say I finally participated at least once  :)

PIMPY shoots and Scooooooooooores and wins this round.

Really nice images and concepts this round. And by 'concepts', I mean evidence of recreational pharmaceuticals.

PIMPY, as the winner you get to pick the next topic. Please post your theme in this thread.

Lots of great images here - and I mean that - really!

pimpy ( ) posted Mon, 01 June 2015 at 12:12 PM

Thanks Mark!

I'm so happy that for the next time the theme is ... "fly with me!"
