Subject: Poser Dynamic Clothing on Genesis (or 2 or 3)

Can regular Dynamic Clothing be used on the Genesis line of characters? Do I need to do anything different from Gen4 characters?

3DFineries ( ) posted Thu, 23 July 2015 at 9:09 AM

You can use Dynamic Clothing on just about any character but yes, you will need to do it a little differently than if you were draping on a character the outfit for which is was made. :)  This tutorial  can help:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw3nyYO5bcA  It's a bit long, but it shows how simple it can be.  Hope this helps. I've done this method before and even though it's for an older version of Poser, it is still relevant.

Have a creative day!

It is possible. You just have to do a little more work.

I don't code, nor do I present myself as a coder, but being related to code monkeys and listening to them chatter amongst themselves in their cryptic language, I would wonder at why someone hasn't developed something like the skin exchangers to do this task.  Select figure, clothe figure in dynamic prop, push button, Voila'!  It works!

I know that I myself would pay good money for that if it worked consistently...unless they wanted too much money for it.

And while we're at it, why not just a button to convert to dynamic?

Awesome!  Now I've got go test this out...  I've been wishing for that "Fit" button for a long time, cedarwolf.

What scripters can do with Poser in PoserPython depends on what PoserPython provies the handles for. Poser provides very few hooks and handles in PoserPython to manage the Cloth room.  If by 'convert to dynamic' you mean take a conforming piece and make it dynamic: that requires geometry with the right structure. In a choreographed geometry all vertices move the way they are directed by the rig. Vertices can move through space independenly of each-other. In dynamic geometry vertices move as if they have a mass, are subject to gravity and wind and are connected to the surrounding vertices by springs and dampers. Anything that is not connected will fall.

Is there a demand for dynamic items for the Genesis figures?

icprncss2 ( ) posted Fri, 24 July 2015 at 12:52 PM

At it simplest, load the figure and the clothing in the pose room.  Make sure both are zeroed.  Select the clothing, use the translate dials to move the clothing to figure.  I usually parent the cloth to the figure's hip.  Use scale dials if necessary to resize the clothing.  Approximate alignment for both shoulders and hip.  Go into the cloth room and set up your sim.  The number of draping frames can vary.  If I get a good fit before I go into the cloth room, I may only use one frame.  If the fit is only a gross approximation, I will use as many as ten.  This method is very basic and leaves lots of room for tweaking and experimentation.

FverBaas, I buy whatever dynamic clothing I can find,  including tuts to learn how to make my own.  But that's been slow going.  so yes I'm definitely interested in more, especially for the Genesis line of characters.

I don't know if there is a demand.  DS doesn't have cloth room capability and most Poser folks have trouble getting the genesis figure working in Poser. I have been using dynamic cloth for years now.  I'll buy it if it is made, but I am not adverse to converting conforming clothing to dynamic.

The beauty of dynamic clothing besides how natural it can look is that it can be used on just about any figure that has a similar default pose of the figure for which it was made. There are tutorials out there that show you how to drape dynamic clothes for one figure onto another.   I was very intimidated by dynamic clothes at first, but now that I have the hang of it, it's much easier.  I love using them & making them.   V4 to Dawn is tricky because Dawn's defaults are so different.  Since I don't have Scarlet, I can't say about her.

In this quick test, I loaded up V4 and applied the Genesis Morph to her in the very first frame. Normally I would have to jump to frame 20 or so before applying the morph.  I loaded my KMT Goddess outfit and draped it.  I didn't have to do anything extra to V4 or the outfit and it fits just as it should when draped.

Best use clothing that is originally to a figure without large breasts and buttocks. Reason is that the stored geometry does not 'remember' the strain that was in the clothing when the geometry shape was made.  If you re-fit, the straining process (and the building up of pressure for friction) has to start again from zero. It can quickly give the idea of the clothing being 'washed out'.

The Poser cloth room is not ideal but it does a reasonably good job in re-fitting and fixing poke-thru.

Dynamic cross fitting offers possibilities of more realism.

An example of one shirt model, made to real-life size and textures, re-fitted to different figures without any scaling. The shirt model, the fit and the images were made in Marvelous Designer, but in this case results from refit in Poser should be very similar.

To a Roxie clone it fits as you would expect a borrowed shirt would fit:
