Subject: alternateGeom and ERC?

Hi,

Going out on a limb and asking a question about a little used Poser figure aspect. I have a figure that I've added alternateGeom for the chest, abdomen, hip, and thighs. Each with a geomChan dial. My questions are, before I commit to (try) writing in the ERC, can the switching dials be successfully slaved to a master dial with the traditional method and how does this differ in execution from say valueOpDeltaAdd? Can the active geometry switched states with morphs applied generate a FBM in the usual manner or does this ERC need to be written in or perhaps utilized as an additional switch state for each body part?

Thanks.

I haven't done this (big caveat to start off with) - but to the best of my knowledge the geomChan dial can be ERCed to or from in the same way as any other. You may want to examine Kirwyn's original KEZ at the bottom of this page, which uses a more complex arrangement. Whether that's purely to make the thing work, or because he was trying to achieve more, I don't know. KEZ uses valueOpDeltaAdd and it works just fine.

I'm not clear what you mean by "generate a FBM", but if you're asking if geometry switched actors can have their morphs ERCed by a control dial, yes they can; again, to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for the reply EnglishBob. Glad to see you still check in here occasionally. :)

Funny you should mention it but I'm looking in Kez's .cr2 as a template for proceeding already. I initially tried using the the poser 2 hi woman and old poser skeleton as an example but the formating is a little different for those old figures and doesn't take into account the crease angle entry for placement of the alternateGeom block. So using Kez as an example I managed to get everything working properly. I'm also seeing Kirwyn's valueOpDeltaAdd entries so I think with some fiddling I can get it all tied together. I do all of my Posering on an old ppc mac so a dedicated .cr2 editor isn't a luxury option for me, probably better to learn hands-on anyway. Bloodsong's book and some surviving old threads here (many of which you posted in) have been really helpful.

Don't be a stranger!

Btw, alot of interesting info to dig up at these sites

... Love all of this archaic Poser internal voodoo.

Yes, I still check in - when my stomach is strong enough to take the 'orrible forum design, and if I want to check for replies since the forum now only sends ebots on special occasions.

I looked up one of VK (atlatis23)'s old threads in the Poser Technical forum recently, and noticed that all the images had disappeared. So that's that finished as a useful source of information.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out, anyway. Ignore the grumpy old man. :)
