Ah, nuts! I don't have anything in reserve to counter. ;-) Still, it's great to see the DW section growing. Sincerely, Bill

So when will the newer dalek be available with the rotating guns section?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 1:52 PM

Yesss ... I really should finish rigging that, shouldn't I?

LD, over at the Who3D forum, Billy-Home recently became a member. (Poser users should thank him for converting Moebius87's Antares bridge to Poser format.) Anyway, he is currently working upon a "bling" Dalek in LightWave that he will adapt to Poser. He had already planned that. I mentioned you were working upon Mark Pilbeam's model, but that other projects and hardware difficulties had blocked progress. I explained how you rigged F.L.O. to use Mimic and the Walk Designer. I didn't know when you would be able to continue the project. He was fascinated by the idea a Mimic ready Dalek, so I sent him the F.L.O. figure to study. I hope you don't mmind. Sincerely, Bill

JHoagland ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 6:44 PM

I'm actually working on making a Dalek figure based on the ones in the 2005 TV series. There's a chance it may be finished later tonight, but will probably won't be done until tomorrow. And, of course, it will come with all the usual moving parts. :) If you'd like to "counter" that, how about making some Cybermen armor? lol --John

A cyberman poser figure would be great, I would make one myself but I am not that good at modelling. :(

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 22 August 2005 at 4:10 AM

I don't mind at all, Bill. And I'll see if I can complete the rigging on Pilbeam's model later this week. A "bling" Dalek?

Redfern ( ) posted Mon, 22 August 2005 at 5:52 AM

The phrase was originally used on "Doctor Who: Confidential" to describe the gold tones of the new Dalek. I believe the exact wording was, "the Daleks have gone 'bling.'" Since then , several fans have used the phrase to quickly deliniate which series design they are referencing. Sincerely, Bill

In post # 6, JHoagland said, "If you'd like to 'counter' that, how about making some Cybermen armor? lol" I would if I could, but alas, my skills at organic and curved surface modeling leaves a LOT to be desired. That's why my offerings have been along the lines of TARDIS consoles and Kaled life-support chairs with their flat, sharp edged surfaces. About the only cyber-helmets I could approximate would be the original "Tenth Planet" Mondasian head-gear. Even then, I'd have to leave the cloth covered face morphs to others. Something with the subtle curves and softly beveled seams of the "Earthshock" helmets and shoulder sections? Oy! I'm doomed. Sincerely, Bill

We really need to get some organic modellers involved- there are tons of alien creatures just asking to be made. :) --John

In post # 11, JHoagland said, "...there are tons of alien creatures just asking to be made." Talk about timing! If one checks the attached link (you'll have to register to access the forums), a resident of Outpost Gallifrey is experimenting with ZBrush to recreate a SeaDevil for use with Michael 3! It looks VERY promising! I recommended he check out your site as a central portal for Poser related DW goodies. Maybe he can be convinced to portal his morphs at your site. Sincerely, Bill

sorry bill, looks like a great place to go, but not taking new members till late summer

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 12:40 AM

Make sure you don't have your spam filters set too tightly either. I tried joining gallifrey one several months back but because my spam filters killed their initial verification email they refused to resend any confirmation emails once I'd fixed my filters and effectively blocked me from joining their site. I won't be able to try again til they delete my defective first attempt a year from now. Don't get me started on the person who responded to all my emailed pleas for help in fixing the situation there. To say rude and pigheaded would be an understatement.

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 1:08 PM

It is strange why some sites are so hostile with people joining up or with complaints. The sites wouldn`t exist without people using them.

Redfern ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 1:46 PM

I had no trouble signing up and the moderators have always been quite accommodating. (Turns out one of the mods was a big fan of catgirls; so he loved my idea of giving the Doctor a felinoid traveling companion in my renders.) However, I think I joined shortly before or just after the new series was announced. Since then, especially since the new series debuted, people from all over were clamoring for membership. I suspect whomever handled your case probably had his or her nerves frazzled by some of the more annoying members. Yep, DW has them, each and every fandom does. I'm sorry conditions have not played in your favor. Sincerely, Bill

It's no big deal to me. I just think it shouldn't have been such an issue to either delete the account and let me recreate it or to resend an activation email to the email listed on the account. The way I see it, if they don't want me to be a member I've got more than enough other forums to keep me busy for the next year while I wait for them to delete my first username attempt. I just thought everyone should know to watch their filter and spam settings when signing up for new forums so they don't loose the confirmation emails they need to click through to activate accounts.

I made the davros wheelchair about a year ago, but someone else made a poser version then so mine was forgotten. Another newer chair has appeared so it looks like this one wont be used now, either.

Redfern ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 5:43 PM

Ooh, sorry, Xantor, I didn't mean to ruin things for you. I'm the schmuck who released one during the weekend at VanishingPoint.biz. Do you know who modeled the one from a year ago? just curious. Sincerely, Bill

Tempt the Hand of Fate and it'll give you the "finger"!

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 5:53 PM

I think that was you, too. You released a davros for boris face morph at the same time. It wasnt really a big problem, I just made the chair to see if it would work and maybe to release it as a freebie, but yours is better anyway, it has switches at the sides of the chair that mine doesnt have. I made mine from photos and a plan picture of the chair that didn`t have the side switches.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 5:55 PM

I don't see why they can't all be on the market. They use multiple props when making the series. Closeup Models, Long Distance Models. Miniature models. Why can't we have multiple versions for our Poser animations? Hrm??? Hi Res, Medium Res, Low Res?

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 6:07 PM

The one I made is not really low res, the spheres on the side look a bit strange rendered in cinema4d probably because the smoothing is not set properly for the object. I didnt want to release my version as well because it just didnt seem right, if it had been a similar thing it would have been ok but it is the same thing so I didnt release it. I wasnt complaining when I posted my picture of the chair, I was just pointing out that other people are interested in making doctor who props and figures.

Redfern ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 6:07 PM

Oh, by all means, release yours! It could be the one Davros was using after his trial on Skaro but before he plugged his finally disembodied head into a Dalek Emporer shell. Or, it could be the one he used before Tom Baker's Doctor first met him. Or... Well, you get the idea. BTW, thanks for the kind words about my model. Oy, did I ever get anal about the detail! I was examining all sorts of photos to get it right. As for the one when I released the Boris face pose, that was actually the one at VP, just in a very early stage of modeling. In fact, for the first tests, I simply "decapitated" a Dalek and stuck Mike 2 in the skirt section. I was rather stumped until I purchased UV Mapper Pro. That solved 99% of the saurfacing issues. Sincerely, Bill

It is ok I wont be releasing mine (I don`t have an internet site anyway so I can`t ). The one I made was intended to be used with the p4 man. As you can see from the picture, the texture isn`t fully finished yet.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 9:20 PM

That's a shame I'd love to have the P4 version! I'd gladly host it for you at http://www.lostin3d.com or I'll bet Helgard would host it at Vanishing Point! Either or, I know I have plenty of room for good Sci-Fi freebies if you just need a host.

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 9:31 PM

Well I will try and finish it soon and make it available at lost in 3d.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Wed, 24 August 2005 at 12:25 AM

Looking forward to it then. :) You can always link to it from here or Vanishing point once it's online. I don't mind if people just use Lost in 3D as a holding host for good Sci-Fi if it's free. :) The links once it's online can be used from anyplace you want to make it also available.

JHoagland ( ) posted Fri, 26 August 2005 at 11:46 AM

I don't see why they can't all be on the market. Why can't we have multiple versions for our Poser animations? I agree. :) These are all free items, so it's not like we're taking sales away from each other. The more, the merrier! :) But, let's try to post links to these items at one or two places: maybe Vanishing Point and lostin3d.com. That way, people won't have to search all over the net to find these items. --John
