I don't believe there have been any changes in the Setup Room between P8 and pp2010. Of course, I rarely visit that section at all, but I haven't seen any posts defining any distinct differences between the 2 versions. SmithMicro does have a comparison sheet on their website. You should check that out for a more indepth comparison.
The only possible difference that I am aware of is not in the set up room but is in the joint editor.
I don't recall seeing it in P8 (I could be wrong) but in PPro 2010 when editing a joint the vertices that will be affected by the joint are highlighted in Green and Red. Instead of having to guess what will be included depending on the scale and position of the inner and outer mat spheres.
For me it's a real help when trying to adjust zones to include stray verts :)
Not sure what you mean by setting up UVMaps and Templates, personally I would always use another app for UVMapping, my personal favourite for ease of use and functionality is 3D Coat, it's better than most at UVMapping, and of course has 3D Painting tools :)

Poser8/PoserPro2010's material rooms look the same to me.

Funny I have never used it. I won't design a shader that only works for Poser Pro, so I noted that it is there but that's it.
GC is actually just the power function, so the ability to change the gamma of a color has always been there. The only advantage it has is it auto-detects the render GC setting, but I can do the same without it.
I did a couple tests and it didn't crash for me.
If Poser ever introduces some nodes that do new things, then I'll use them. But this is just a node reduction - which doesn't matter to me as I use matmatic.
For me, an auto-GC of some color, x, is:
GC(x)
This took me less time to type than it would take to add and hook up a gamma node.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Hi all -
I'm a Poser8 user and am starting to develop my own figures. I'm just becoming familiar with the setup room. My question is: Are there SIGNIFICANT differences in the setup room in PoserPro2010 vs. Poser8. In particular, is the functionality more advanced, are the selection tools any easier to use, etc. Also wondering if there's anything in PoserPro to setup UV maps/templates. Just trying to see if, for figure development and setup, it's worth the investment.
Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks
