Hmm. I don't do Daz3D anymore, and never used Poser (strictly Blender these days), but the thread header lured me in. I've been signed up with Rendo since 2002(?) but haven't posted anything but pics after 2012 (life & stuff). So I finally show my face here again with a couple of Blender render uploads, and lo! how quiet the site appears to be! I kinda drifted away as the site seemed to get ever more exclusively Posery (my thing is 3D modeling, mostly with Blender these days).
It's interesting to be back.

I do agree I wish others would let us know if they are leaving. I always think the worst when it seems it's often they lost interest or just are busy. Hopefully, that's the case with your friend.
Sometimes members just drift away though, like me, rather than just "leave". I was a vendor here years ago, but a combination of changes in the structure of the marketplace and real life stuff (moving from GB to delightful Portugal was part of it) meant I pretty much lost interest. This is my first post here in years! I've looked in from time to time and the site always looks a lot different each time I do.
I still model for the fun of it (Blender now it's become so powerful combined with being easier to use than yonks ago).
Anyhow, best wishes to all. I should pop by more often; I really should.

It's an odd situation alright. They've put the download links up on a freely accessible website, along with the serial activations written right there upfront. There are no hoops to jump through (such as having to enter your email address in a form in order to get the serials), and no registration or log-in needed. But they suggest that you can only download if you already own the software (and need to reactivate it for some reason), but then they don't even have that statement up on the blog anymore..
It would be interesting to consider how a court case brought against an "unauthorised" downloader of this might proceed. The judge could well come to the conclusion that, since the company had made not the slightest, minimal effort to prevent unauthorised downloads on this particular material, that they really didn't care that much after all, and that making a court case of it after the fact was wasting everybody's (including the court's) time.
My personal, and entirely ignorable, opinion is that they have indeed put this stuff up for CS2 owners, as they've said, but that they're probably looking the other way as far as anybody else is concerned, allowing that they don't want a reputation as a company that gives away their signature software, even the obsolescent stuff. Don't take that as gospel though ;)

Here is what the Adobe blog says about this:
"Update on CS2 and Acrobat 7 Activation ServersPosted by Adobe Corporate Communications on January 7, 2013 4:05 PM in Creatives, Digital Media
"Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers. While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers."
Make of that what you will. Their blog is closed to further comments.

I got a page full of Cyrillic writing -- looked like a Russian forum, though I didn't hang around long enough to inspect it closely.

My partner uses the OpenOffice version (it's called Impress) for making presentations of slides of her professional design work. It will save in the Powerpoint .ppt format as well as its native format, so any system with the Powerpoint software can display the results.

Open Office has a pretty good Powerpoint clone built in, and the Powerpoint viewer is free to download, if you want that.

Good info -- thanks ;)
I often see hints that Norton is outgunned by the good freeware applications. I use Avast! myself, and that's caught and blocked a few rogue (or compromised) websites, but AVG is good too. Personally I've never bothered with Norton.

He is very affable in temper and a skilful man,
And to fix all his programs he tries all he can;
And I wish him success for many a long day,
For he has saved me from crashing, I venture to say;
The kind treatment we received surpasses all
Is the honest confession of McGonagall.

Yes I knew it had come up before, but I got one of their mailshots a couple of days ago with the image on it. It went straight in the bin.

Bit of a bump this, since I don't get around here much these days, but I must say that buffalo shot' was new to me, although
badger shot' could be the Brit equivalent :)
Does Rendo have a policy on cameltoe situations? I had to ask since it seems relevant..
Best wishes ;)

Thread: To All, if you backup ONLY on CD or DVD, be warned... | Forum: Community Center
"Regardless of what you might think about self-recordable CD or DVD, the lifespan is truly limited."
This was always on the cards. CDs and DVDs are made of plastic. Plastic creeps (deforms slowly under mild stress). Given the degree of data-packing on CDs in the available space, it's a wonder they last as long as they do. DVDs will almost certainly have an even shorter life.

"Oh and Pearce, you quoted something from 1937, they were British full on back then not Aussie like we are now lol."
Well of course I did refer to "His Majesty's Colony of Australia", as it was back then.
All of this, along with Johnson-Tugwell's subsequent public disgrace, was hushed up at the time; but British Foreign Office records, available since 1987 under the 50 year rule, record at great, indeed extravagent, length J-T's "flagitious" [sic] tendencies during his short period of governance of His Majesty's most important antipodean responsibility (New Zealand being regarded, obviously, as a distant outpost of Surrey).
