Subject: Gallery upload problem

I always have a real problem with uploading images to the gallery. There's no problem in keeping my filesize below the generous 512Kb limit but how the HELL do you get a thumbnail below 15K?
I've reduced it in size from 200x200 to 120x120 and saved it at Jpeg compression 0. 19kb is the lowest it goes. I tried 'Save for web'. The Gif is 21Kb. If I reduce it in size much more it will be indecipherable. Its already just a small cutout of the full scene which says nothing about the image its from.
I know bandwidth restrictions mean that upload sizes need to be kept down but 15K for a thumbnail? Can't this be stretched just a bit? 30K would make life a whole lot easier.
How do the experts do this?

I've had no problem keeping the thumbnails under 15K even at 200X200. I have Adobe ImageReady. I usually import the thumbnail picture into ImageReady and "optimize" it to 80-90% quality, and save the optimized thumbnail before uploading. Have you tried to save your Jpeg at higher compression?

Thanks JV. I have to admit to ignorance here and say that I didn't know what Imageready did. I've barely looked at it. My 25K thumb just shrank to 9K with no discernible loss. Many thanks. :o).
