so just had one of my comic fans tell me my wet skin makes K4 kids "look like chocolate" and I think he means the plastic looking shine no the colour. Due to sight rules I cannot post a pic to show you as it's two K4 kids in a bathtub but take my word they look plastic. I know normally you guys ask for material room stats but not a lot to show in this case sorry. I struggle with this side of poser because my brain is just not wired for maths (apart for money) .
Could you guys give some tips about using the material room for making thing and skin look wet . no extra plug-ins just what comes with poser 11 . and for the record I always us super fly renders.

You could post the material room without the image. And a cropped image of just the face would be ok. If you're on Windows, the snipping tool works great for that.
You could also look at this https://www.renderosity.com/forums/threads/2948897/wet-skin-in-superfly

Sadly I never kept the kids in the wet form as it's a once off scene so cannot provide the info, and I'm not getting told off again for posting the wrong image. I just want advice from people who know how to work with the Material room and how to use nodes properly. (i am now at the age where i pay attention to such things! lol)

if you ever want to post an image but don't know if it's okay, you can send it to me in sitemail and I can check it. I do appreciate when people make an effort to follow the TOS, but I don't want people to be afraid of posting and getting the help they need.

For SuperFly, using the Roughness setting in either the Physical Surface node, or the Cycles Root with Principled BSDF shader will give you the wet or dry look you might want.
Black would be really glossy, and white would be really dull. A roughness of 50% (middle gray) would be a little more subdued and sort of satiny.
If you want to be more specific about where wet and dry areas are on the skin, use grayscale maps connected to the Roughness connection for each material zone. You'd need to create a map for each tile that the skin uses. For example, for Kids 4, you'd need roughness maps for head, torso, arms, and legs. Connect the texture maps to the Physical or Principled Surface node, and set the Roughness value in the material node to 1. That will use the black gray, and white values in the maps just as they are.
I'll post a sample image shortly.

Ooh, Deecey, that's brilliant. Will try that later this weekend, time to break out Materialize for making roughness maps.
Thanks for posting examples!

OK here's a screen cap of just the head material. You'd need to do the same treatment to the other material zones that make up the kid's skin.
Here's the quickest way to set up a SuperFly material:
1) Add the Physical Surface root node. Tick the SuperFly Root checkbox at the top. Now the PoserSurface will only be used for Firefly, and the Physical Surface will be used for SuperFly.
2) Set diffuse color to white (it's a slightly gray shade by default), and connect the head Color Texture to the Color input of the Physical Surface node. DO NOT use that icky blue color that the PoserSurface node uses. See the difference?
3) For the glossiest setting, set Roughness value to zero. This will make it the "shiniest." As stated above, a value of .5 will be more satiny, and a value of 1 will be dullest. You can also connect a roughness map to control the amount of shine more directly, with dark values being shinest, and lighter values being the dullest. If you do use a roughness map, set the Roughness value of the node to 1.
4) You can connect the existing Specular map to the Specular channel. Change Specular color to white so that it uses the values in the Specular Map. If that's too much, back it off from white a bit at a time until you get the effect you want.
5) Set the Bump value the same as that in the PoserSurface node. I just used the Bump Map here, The PoserSurface node connects bump through a Granite node, but I just pulled the Bump Map into it.
6) At the bottom of the Physical Surface node, I changed the scatter method to Walk Fixed. But it won't really make a difference unless there are values other than zero in the Scatter Radius R, G and B settings. That's an entirely different topic on its own which I won't get into here. 8-)

OH! Forgot to add.
SuperFly likes area lights. You might want to try the SuperFly light presets in Included > SuperFly Lights to get yourself started, but you might also want to start with an area light and position and scale it until you get a good result.

And if you don't want to touch the setting of your base layer, you may add a second layer and play with those settings.
Let 0.05 for the MixClosure's Fac setting: too high and the skin turn pale.
Often, I use 0.5 for the Anisotropic's Roughness setting with my lights setups, here with Poser11's "Bright Light", I lowered the value down to 0.2
Deleting the layer lets you go back to your original skin.

YPhil, you renamed two nodes, can you please let us know which ones are those (Gloss Level and Gloss Effect)? Not all of us know the Cycles nodes by heart. Thank you!

This reflects the idiocy of eliminating the Simple tab in the material room. In Poser 11, you can just set the highlights to white to get a wet look.

wow! I wasn't expecting this amount of interest in my silly post, thanks peeps. i have notes to take it seems.
anyhow I thought about it and I think it's better if i just post the link to the comic page, so people can see what im talking about. (hopefully its not breaking rules) but it's not posting the pics on here so dont click the link if you dont want to see k4 kids in the bath (it only shows their shoulders up)
