Description

"In the desert sands where they test the bombs Came these man-made monsters They'll try to breed They'll fly by night We must destroy these nests of the mutant ants These man-made monsters Their bodies burn A gruesome site Beware of THEM!" Okay, so the song "Them" by The Misfits is about the movie of the same name from back in the 50's (and also about giant mutant ants instead of giant mutant Praying Mantis), but the picture still made me think of it. Another shot of the Mantis who was hanging around outside of work. This one really makes the whole alien aspect of certain members of the insect kingdom apparent. Shot with my Olympus E-300, 50mm Macro lens, 1/80th of a second exposure at f8.0, ISO 100. Thanks for stopping by and having a look. Also thanks kindly for all of you comments on my last image. Comments and crits are welcome as always.

Lucky dog you, I've seen only 2 or 3 of these in my life. Fantastic find and a awesome capture, they do look like they came from another planet. Nice work!!

There's no wonder SF artists and writers base most of their creatures on insects and lizards. This is extremely creepy and looks for all the world like it's 6 feet tall.

Your comments remind me of the X Files espisode I watched earlier this morning - the one where the cockroaches are supposedly attacking people in the town and the idea that some insects could actually be alien probes.

For sci-fi mantis monsters, you have to look no further than the original Battlestar Galactica. This one reminds me of the queen buggie. Great, eyes-in-the-back-of-the-head capture!
