Description

The pigeons are 10 days older and starting to look like big birds. Once they start eating on their own they have to go. Too bad they are really fun little birds. They live in our back office right now, but when it's feeding time they know to run down the hall and follow us outside. He likes to be viewed in full size to show off cuteness! Here is what they looked like 10 days ago. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1731544

Most people who have known me here on RR know that I am a pigeon freak. (I have a few shots way back in my gallery of my chicks and their growing up.) Up until last year I raised mixed breeds and had a coop of 28. Some were rescued birds, some were destined for the "gas chamber" because their blood line wasn't pure enough for showing or racing. I never allowed a chick to be raised in the coop and after 5 days I would bring them in and hand raise them. When I saw this shot, I recognized immediately the look of a handfed bird - all the "formula" on its face is a dead give-away. Have you put a shallow pie dish down with water in it to watch them bathe? They love to splash in the water and it helps them to release the new feathers from the sheaths. Stellar shot of this lovely "child." By the way, I still have a pair in my coop after finding homes for all the others. I had so many it was taking too much time to care for them. But I kept the last 2 babies and the female is laying her own eggs now. :-)
