Description

Here is one of the better shots I got at the recent Sonoma County AirShow here in California of an old fighter plane. It was a really nice show. Lots of acrobatic planes and some comedy stunts. Very well put together this year. I may upload one of my favorite planes....the Jelly Belly plane. The guy operating the plane was brilliant. Anyway, I hope you like this one (I can't remember what kind of plane or anything of course *sigh*) and thank you so much for the comments on my recent uploads. :)

Very eye catching shot of a P-40. Made by Curtis, the earliest models were flown in 1937. Depending on the variant (model), this Hawk series had names that included Warhawk, Tomahawk, Kittyhawk. This was the third most produced U.S. fighter in WW II with about 15,000 being built. The nose art became famous as the symbol of The Flying Tigers in China prior to U.S. entry in WW II. Hope this wasn't more than you ever wanted to know :-) Bill

A P-40N (specifically a P-40N-5) in, of all things, Flying Tiger markings. The "N" came along well after the Tigers. Very nice shot!
