Description

Just to show that it isn't all nasty, These are the alms-houses in Castle Street, Reading. They were built in 1867 to replace the originals built by Sir Thomas Vachel in 1634. According to the original plaque, they were endowed with £40 per annum for ever for the maintenance of six poor men. I doubt that would even cover the electricity bill these days. :-D ------------------------------- Original Photograph 1-Sep-2008
