Description

Inside the water powered Taylor Sawmill: This is a 12 foot log that is being cut into a 10 inch square beam. One side at a time. The log has to be rotated to cut each of the four sides. The saw blade operates at about 60 strokes a minute and during each down stroke, the carriage holding the log, advances a quarter inch. All of this runs, from a series of leather belts, wrapped around the drive shaft of the water wheel. Please note that all the moving parts in the sawing process are hand made form wood, except for hinges and the saw blade itself. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments & favs. Dana

The 10 inch beam is going to be impressive and support a lot of weight and balance. I love this process and so many others from this past era. Great shot and information.

Very interesting capture, Dana, looks very much like the inside of Mabry Mill, which both Lynell and I have photographed in the past.
