Description

The Mars Rover in trouble. I wonder how they did manage to move it around with such small wheels, even on a less difficult terrain.

Super space render...surfaces, colors, everything....except...the moon does not match the other shadows and is out of phase...the sun is coming from the left and the dark side of the moon should be to the right...still, a cool image! Please keep on...more!!!

i really like this one, that's something I would try to do (as soon as my comp is okay again), very crisp, with good atmosphere and landscape and of course I like the topic. The only problem.....it's too small!!! :)

I love that terrain, the rocks are spectacular! Nice model of the rover, too.

Very well observed Markal! Had not thought of it. As for the small size, it is intended. Posting large images on the internet (photos or else) is begging to have them stolen and reused, including in print. I have already seen complaints about this here and on FlickR. Five years ago, one of my photos was stolen and used by the french edition of the Science magazine. It was only 800 pixels in width and they managed to get it printed on half a page. When I have time, I will make a tutorial about the rock distribution that contributes to the realism of the scene.

Ok, I have put a larger version on my website: http://www.virtual-lands-3d.com/assets/images/gallery/space/mars_rover_lg.jpg I have also made a tutorial titled realistic item distribution in Vue ecosystems to show how I made the rock field. http://www.virtual-lands-3d.com/more-realistic-distributions-in-vue-ecosystems.html

Very nice terrain but I do see a few duplicates. Placing rocks in any program is quite difficult. To be able to give a natural feel to the rocks and terrain dose take patients and skill. The lighting and atmosphere really works well in this picture. I agree with Markal about the incorrect lighting of the moon but the terrain and rock are very impressive. It would of been nice to show tracks from the rover wheels but I don't know how difficult that would be with this program. Maybe during post work you may be able to create tracks. The rocks that are around the rover seems a little too big for the rover to be there. I don't believe JPL would take a chance in driving there rover over such large rocks for fear of getting stuck. This picture overall is a very good example of what one can do to create believable looking terrain. As for the size of your pictures yes anyone can steal your picture if they want to, I know from my own experience. But I still like to give a decent size picture so people can see all the work that I have put into the picture. Do you do this for a living? If you feel threaten then maybe you should include a watermark on the image. That way if it is stolen you will have more leverage to recoup damages from the use of your work. Best of luck, David

The terrain and ground cover look excellent. The moon seems distorted, probably due to the wide angle lens. May I suggest the use of the lens aberration feature in the camera manager? It's great to fix these kind of things.

Thanks for the tip. I never used this feature and dit not think of using it for this purpose. Part of the distorsion could probably be solved by keeping the view level.

wow realistic rocks.....one suggestion, notice the lighting on the ground is brighter on the right side while the sunlight in the atmosphere shows it is shining from the left side ...which means you need to make the ground lighting shines from the left and the lighting looks like ambient light instead of sunlight as well. I still will give you hats off to you on a top rating due to outstanding realism of planet's rock textures.
