Description

The Luxor Las Vegas Hotel and Casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada ( just south of the Las Vegas city limits). It opened on October 15, 1993 and is shaped like a 350 foot (110 meters) high pyramid containing 4,407 rooms in this 30 story building. There is a 42 billion candle power light beam shooting, straight up, from the peak of the pyramid. Out front sits a replica of the Egyptian Great Sphinx. There are people at the feet of the Sphinx for perspective also on the walkway on the right. Photo taken in April of 1998, with a hand held film camera and recently scanned. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. Dana

I will never see the original in Egypt but if I ever get a few bucks together, I'd be pleased as punch to see this reproduction in Vegas. Until then, I'm gonna enjoy your capture of it. Wonderful pov.

My Husband and I vacationed in Las Vegas Last year.. and stayed at the Luxor.. Being an Egyptian fan and knowing that I would never get to see the real thing, It was a real Treat for me... If you haven't been already you may be out of luck.. when we were there they were decommissioning it.. and it was under renovation to get rid of the Egyptian theam. What a shame. What I saw was exquisite. Your Picture is really great.. you got a really good shot there.

Las Vegas must be a very strange place, so many things out of context, it must be like a waking dream, my son has visited, but not as yet myself.

Excellent POV, perspective, clarity and composition, Dana! I can see the people, but they are so infinitesimal I can barely make them out.

I also spent a long weekend there once; it was absolutely gorgeous, and as with almost everything in Las Vegas, much much bigger than it appears! Great shot!
