Description

After visiting the market in Apt France we drove around a loop road that took us to a town named Roussilon. Roussilon was once an ochre mining town and it is very apparent in the many colors found in the building materials used in their houses. Since the 1980's ochre mining is no longer the big industry it was so now the town relies on tourism for most of it's money. Now you may wonder why I tell you all of this when I have posted a photo of a sleeping cat. It is because the cat also helped earn his share of the tourist coins. He slept peacefully curled up in the sun on the window ledge looking so cute. Obviously this is something he did often if the sign in the window is anything to go by. What I failed to get in my photo and, in fact I did not see it until after I took the cat's photo is the sign that said it cost 50 cents to take a photo of the cat. :) He was such a charming addition to the atmosphere of the place that I gladly went in the shop and paid my dues. I think the man was surprised I actually paid, but he spoke in French (and I do not) so I can not be certain. I did, however, get the feeling it was more to lure tourists into the shop than to actually make people pay for the photo of the cat.

I would have paid too; and I probably would have tried to pet the cat unless the cat had something else to say about it! What a wonderful shot!

Cute shot, Katherine. Although I'm not familiar with French laws on the subject, I would question the legality & enforcability of charging someone to take a photo of a cat in plain view on a public street. I've been to charming Roussilon - I hope you'll have some photos to share of the picturesque red houses there...

Yes I do have some photos, but probably nothing as good as what you have if you have been there.

Yes a good way of luring people for a visit in the shop.... I wonder if the cat is alive or just a stuffed one.

He was very much alive and a real cute one too. Later in the day he had moved elsewhere.

I really love how you got the little guy juxtaposed with the security sticker on the door. I half expected it to say, "Beware, fierce guard kitty on premises".

I think the big sign should have shown the hand with bandaged fingers with maybe drops of blood ... ;-}

wonderful capture and delightful narrative - I would have paid as well

Totally priceless! @ photosythesis: I'm sure they wouldn't force the people to pay! But if one of my cats would sleep on a prominent place where tourists walk by and always take photos of it, I would give it a try as well. For me, the sign in the window and the request for paying 50 cent for a photo is clearly a statement for the fine humor of the cat owner 😆
