While I was (mostly) pleased with the mask I made last year for my "Chaelim" character, I really did over-design and over-think it, which got me into a great deal of trouble when it came time to actually make the thing. This time around I took the opposite route: Little advance planning, and lots of small steps followed by a day or two before moving onto the next stage. That allowed the mask to evolve much more organically, and yet I feel like the over all effect is really satisfying. It's not finished yet, but this gives a pretty good impression of what the final piece will look like. I have to admit: I'm really happy with the result. For reference, Chaelim is a Goblin half-breed who was outcast at birth and raised by a human who was also an outcast. Chaelim learned a bit of magic, alchemy, herb-lore and even a bit of healing from this human, and now is a wandering shaman/witch-doctor amongst the Goblin clans. He never stays in one place long, and is one of the few Goblins who's clanless status isn't a death-sentence but rather a benefit, as he can visit any village/clan/outpost. Mostly he spends days and nights on the road, fending for himself and avoiding contact except when he needs to trade his own skills and knowledge for things he can't make for himself. His mask both hides his face, but also emphasizes the ability he has to do things no other goblin can do. He may not be liked by his fellow goblins, but he is valued, after a fashion.
