Description
Tuesday, January 3, the heating system at school stopped. The plumber said that either someone had turned off the electric switch or closed too many radiators, which could cause a shutdown due to overheating. Only me and Ken were at work. Neither of us know anything about the heating system. It works on ground heat with a central heat exchanger. Well, the fellow got the system working.
Ken then went on an errand and came back just after sunset. I met him in the kitchen door and we started talking about where he should sleep until the rooms were warm, when suddenly we heard 5 heavy steps in the stairway beside us leading to the second floor. Neither Ken nor I saw anyone entering the building from the kitchen entrance. I looked up the stairs, then quickly went up them. Nobody there. Ken was a few steps behind me. Suddenly a series irregular hollow knockings from inside the solid concrete wall. Ken went pale. Before I could say anything, I heard 5 heavy foot steps right above my head in the closed attic crawl space above. This was VERY EERIE. I investigated the upper floor, then the lower floor. Nobody to be seen.
My suspicion is the “whatever” shut down the electric supply to the heating system.
All rooms were getting warm, but Ken’s room was still ice cold. Looking for another room for him, I opened room 3. Dark, a frightening, creepy cold and an eerie feeling of someone/something in there. I quickly closed and locked the room. Ken said “That’s where M-L rented and had her hokus-pokus. Don’t ever open that door.” She was an alcoholic we had to expel. A very weird woman (I wonder where my boss finds all these weird tenants?).
Ken was gone for several days after the eerie incidents. He slept over at friend’s places. For my part, I haven’t seen or heard anything since.
There have been sightings by myself (twice), a woman teacher once (she ran around a corner and accidentally straight though him!), a student, and 2 teachers who DON’T want to be alone in the building due to erie feelings and occasional odd sounds.
I suspect the “spook” is the circus director who lost his elephant. The circus had Jews, stayed at the farm as refugees until World War 2 was over, and had to butcher the poor elephant to get it out of the building as it had grown too big during their stay. It is reputed the circus director later hanged himself.
This photo is of the staircase. I used Photoshop to join 2 photos to show the whole staircase as it wouldn’t fit in one photo. The scary knocking came from the left in the middle of the concrete wall.
ENJOY?
PS – I DON’T know what the white spots are. I suspect possible photo flash bouncing off dust particles.

Oh dear me - that is quite creepy I must admit. I agree with Richard, it is very well written. I'm not so sure those spots are reflections off dust particles either... WOW!!!

Things that go bump in the night!

At least I'm not sleeping there. Now I understand why Ken has asked me to do so on a few occasions. No way! My union would hit the ceiling if I were to do so! (And so probably also the "spook"). :)

Brrrrrrr...... I have goose-bumps after reading this "adventure" Michael. And those two orbs at the middle left do not look like dust particles, not at all. There's too much going on, too many colors and details. I've seen those show up in images from 'haunted' places before.
Very eerie, indeed!

Yes, I did think about an eerie origin for the white spots. They are not like the ones you get from flash on snow flakes. That's why I considered dust, but had the eerie origin in the back of my head. Ken is back, but still a bit shaken.

Creepy story! I'd sleep with garlic around my neck and stout iron cross in my hand.

Great story. Taken at face value, very creepy and mysterious and I have no reason to disbelieve you.
