Description
done in cinema4d release 8 using hdri lighting technique...
processed in photoshop with depth blur and disk blur filters
it took me about 3hrs to model the whole scene, and another hour or so to play around with textures and the lighting model (which was totally new to me)
as many already noticed, the ring is slightly blurred. this is intentional, since i thought it adds a bit more realism to the image...but if you want an image with a 'sharp' ring, i can upload one (in a bigger resolution) to my company's hp...
render time: ~10 mins
thanks for any comments
btw. ever tried to plot a rendered image onto photo-paper (15x10cm)?
(i had a hard time to convince a friend of mine that it's no real photograph ;-) )

Most awesome image,I didnt see such a great image using HDRI lighting for long time..DOF is greatly done!Maybe the ring is too blured..Still excellent!!
cinemaguy
well, the key to a good dof is not to use the built-in functions (of c4d), but to generate a depth-map along with the redered picture. Using this depth-map, it's possible to apply blur-filters in an image-processing package. The blur-strength is multiplied with the grayscale of the depth-map, leading to an out-of-focus effect... however, DOF is not the only thing i applied here. I also used a filter to enlarge the bright areas of the images (the highlights). A good filter is able to enlarge the highlights using predefined geometrical shapes (like a hexagon or pentagon), resulting in more realistic 'out-of-focus'-areas. i know that the ring maybe too blurred, but it's the first time i did process an image like that...i still need practise ;-) btw. thanks for all the positive feedback!

yeah, great job. Like everybody else i would like to know how you made the chain? Especially how you made it to drape like that? Dynamics??? SHARE! Hehehe! Greets, Patrick.

Lovely work, and I can only echo Pat's comments about the chain - it's superb, and I'd love to know how you made it!
cartesius
Really, really good work! I would prefer if you had shifted focus from the chain links to the actual ring, but I can live with it as it is now :)
