Description
This is my second piece of work on the subject of homelessness. I spent a lot of time at a Salvation Army Centre for the homeless getting to know the guys there and taking photos, this painting was done from one of those photos. I hope that by doing this work I can put the problem of homelessness into an exhibition situation where it is not ignored or avoided.
Next time you see someone living on the street, buy them a coffee instead of passing them by.
Oil on canvas
2004
70x100cm

I finally graduated from University this week... I am now officially a Bachelor of Fine Art!!!

Hey Anna, congrats on getting your BA! :-D
Thanks for sharing this, quite apart from it being another excellent example of your technical skill with oils, it's a piece of realism in the direct sense in that you're portraying a real individual in his own very real circumstance, prompting us to stop for a moment to feel real empathy. One can only wonder at the blows life has dealt this guy, and who he is, one life being every bit as important as another. Thank you :-)

Congratulations on the achievement of your BA. I believe you have had a lot of hard work doing your University. It's good to know that even in the so called first world there're people like you, doing something for the less favoured ones. Here in Brazil there's a lot of people like that guy. As Synapse said in the previous comment, no one knows the stories hidden behind their faces.

Congrats from me too:-) This painting is so wonderful - his pose and facial expression says it all. There is a whole life in this picture! I wish you all luck and strength in your work for homeless people - they deserve all kindness from us. They are individuals - as shown in this great painting! Thank you for this:-)

I am to late Anna but congrats on your BA and thanks for this tiny series of homelessness. This kind of finality and dissolution is a part of the world we are living in. We are all in this together, by ourselves, thanks Anna for this reminder ;o)
