Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 5:12 pm)
He was recovering from Malaria, last I heard...

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."yo! yeah I recover from malaria every year just about!
Project E is up and running for me (I use nothing else now), but she is not suitable for the store yet. In the process of developing it I came across some serious issues in the software (both Poser and DS) that make it hard form me to make professionally accurate JCMs and culminative JCMs. The problem has been reported and it will be fixed asap. Once this bug is sorted (which will hopefully be soon), I can go ahead and redo the JCMs properly. She will probably be compatible with V4 textures and content. I'll try make her compatible for G2F but that's not a promise!

Lol Ero V4 is al klaar vrek. Maak die blerry ding vir G2 lol. Ek sal jou help:) Daar is waar die kroon is bra. Lol kry jy malaria elke yaar?
Looking forward to her release in stores. I've enjoyed using Lali in my simple
renders. Cain't get her to look like yours yet-but I'm still working on it. Thanks
oh my I didn't see these new replies! SORRY! hehe yeah lali's bits was quite a system to learn. Even I got confused at times!
"The fool is not the one that does something foolish, but the one that does nothing at all."
I noticed on your blog some time ago that you stated Project E uses V4's rig. Is that still the case?
Yeah it is, but it might not be the case in the final product (whenever the hell that comes out lol). I'm in convo with some vendors and they have differing opinions about the skeleton setup. I haven't decided yet. I'll open it up for discussion once I'm sure I can make the final push.
"The fool is not the one that does something foolish, but the one that does nothing at all."
ok ... I have to say. I've looked and erogenesis' work here and at DA and ... it is the most amazingly natural, expressive and well done work I've yet to see in Poser. I'm totally blown away! I would nominate this artist as artist of the month!
cheers boni! really cool of you!

haha jy poephol! G3 het een blerry nu. Alles sal regkom! ek moet die posermense redde! Lol my malaria for this year is late...! I think I might have drunk too much beer bra!

I will definetily buy this model if it becomes available for Poser, and im glad that talented artist still makes standalone figures for my prefered application.
Think there is good money in the poser community too (we have money but not much to spend them on:-)
hehe very cool of you! I think however I'll also do the free base model thing so that people can decide if they wanna carry on with it or not. Then if possible I'll also provide nice morph packs and such at a more 'ero' price ;) But before I can even think of that lemme first get the girl sorted lol!
"The fool is not the one that does something foolish, but the one that does nothing at all."
Erogenesis, if this girl is going to become mainstream (and I really hope she does), she is going to need some everyday clothing. Since that sort of thing is apparently not a money maker for vendors, I'll be happy to make her a free core wardrobe for work as soon as you settle on the rigging system and release her. Thank you for thinking of the Poser people!

yaay! ok cool thanks. I'm gonna try think of something to speed things up. I'm not sure if I have the patience to wait for P11...

Well from what I have seen so far I would be more than happy to jump on the PE train, even if she was marketed at Genesis 3 level prices.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

thanks for the vote of confidence hornet. Although this is not set in stone, like DAZ I might make her base free with the essentials so that people can get an idea, and then provide more detailed morphs on the side for a price (don't worry I won't milk your finances dry haha). The idea is that she's compatible with V4 at least. No idea if I can achieve that for G2 and G3

I like that idea a lot. I think many users want to have a play with a figure, if only to see the potential, before they start paying for extras. I certainly favour that way as I am happy to spend for a new figure but only if it has the potential to go past where V4WM is today. I am not saying that Genesis was not an improvement, particularly if you use DS but, so far, it has never been enough to warrant the outlay. From the renders I have seen, PE would be my figure of choice, she is not only beautiful she appears to have the ability to smile that is reflected in the eyes and I have not seen that before. If that is the base the potential must be massive.
Also, if you go down the this route I hope users would be a bit more forgiving than they were with 'Scarlet' but I have to say something tells me it is a forlorn hope.

I know right haha! Yeah I'll be honest and say that that prospect does make me helluva nervous. But I think it might not be so bad because of my approach.
It took me a while to formulate the idea, and I'm just not approaching this as some 'V4 killer' like some people have done. I'm not going to make the mistake of promising the world to everyone, only for them to be disappointed. In fact, Project E is a result of that exact frustration when Dawn came out. I wanted to be free of this figure circus and just have a figure that did exactly what I wanted it to do: look real, look good, work in poser, has biology!, is not dependent on a big corporate organization, and work with all the content I had (which is mostly V4).
The consequence of this is that it might not be an option for everyone. She's meant for artwork, this means detail (not for games or trolls). She's (slightly) higher res than V4, has loads of JCMs, and some people are sufficiently irked by integrated genitals that they'd skip an entire figure for it. But if it works for me, then it should work for at least a few other artists, that's my reasoning.
All that rests now is that I need to make her user-friendly. There is a bug in Poser (and DS) that prevents me from making accurate JCMs. I can handle them but I cannot expect others to be able to. This is getting fixed now... but might take a while. If I can find another way I might be able to speed things up, but don't count on it.
As you might deduce from this, my motivation is not necessarily money (besides needing to pay the bills), so that should hopefully put some minds at ease lol (off course some of my contributors might think differently haha).
I just hope I can get something done by the end of this year. I really do wanna help out. But we'll see!

I do like your approach and I hope users respect that. While I would like the figure soon, like yesterday, I am thankful that you are prepared to share your hard work at some point. Clearly the project has it origins firmly in providing a figure that met your needs, which nobody should fault, but of course a lot of people will have similar needs, me included. I understand your disappointment with Dawn, which I still think could be a good figure but it did not live up to the hype on day one. I was even more disappointed because I wanted the Hivewire team to be successful, and I still do. Good news is they appear to be here for the long haul.
I have never used any figure for what you could call pornography, although every persons opinion of what is pornography is very different. On the other hand I have purchased from Rendererotica so clearly such things do not bother me so the fact she is complete is not an issue for me.
As to the way she is built, well to be honest I am not that bothered or skillful enough to know what is good or bad. What I want is a figure that look right and is good enough to use for art and portrait work. I am not saying I do not appreciate the hard work you are putting in, more making the point I will adopt a figure because it gives me the renders I want not because someone says it has the latest technology.
I really do respect your view of not having money as the prime motivation but I am still happy to pay for this figure and I am also happy to wait until you are satisfied she is ready to meet her public.

thanks hornet! Just for the record, my frustration with Dawn wasn't that it was a bad figure, but that it was yet another figure that needed a load of work before I could consider it useful. Her base mesh was fairly decent and her rigging wasn't bad at all, in fact I learned a few things from her. So you could say I was more frustrated that I was dependent on other figures (and that people were hoping I'd make gens for a figure with 5 polygons in the respective area lol). So yeah, it wasn't that bad, but I realized I needed to shut up and make my own.
Don't worry I'm not bothered with what people would wanna do with her. If you can use her, well great! I kindof hope that it will inspire people to delve deeper into CG art and perhaps come with their own figures and innovations.
Anyway, let me first finish her lol!
thanks again :)

No doubt about it: "Lali Bits" have been, by far and large, the greatest event in the history of V4 since her inception by DAZ; and, considering how much the fourth version of Victoria meant, and is still meaning,in the Poser-related universe it's been really something. What erogenesis achieved from his secret hideout in South Africa is simply stunning; this guy succeded in solving what, after years of goodwilled efforts by many other talented artists, had begun a sort of HolyGrail (no disrespect intended) of the Poserverse: how to make Vicky 4 really "whole". Whoever tried to accomplish the task - no matter if a professional or a simply not too skilled amateur like myself - knows the unbelievable amount of obstacles and difficulties he had to overcome: the combination of a (relative) low-poly count (which oddly V3 had not) and a really "nasty" joint configurations - to point-out just the most obvious of the difficulties - around V4's femininity made the quest a kind of 3D nightmare. After many years end users and content creators alike had lost all hopes and then... Lali Bits appeared like a blazing rainbow and literally gave V4 a deserved 4th dimension (let's call it that way)! Not only erogenesis addressed the question of "the elephant in the living room" (I really felt for him when he, in a really polite way, attempted to address the "4th dimension" question in a thread about a new female figure for Poser, some time ago, and received a lot of harsh replies here on Rendo Forum...), but he did so in such an elegant and brilliant manner that - in my opinion, again - everyone in the Poserverse should be thankful. It opened an entire new universe of possibilities for V4, and in the end that's the most important thing: it doesn't restricts only to nude/erotic playfulness (actually that's a big part of being "human"; still you have every right to consider it forbidden, sinful, distasteful, etc. or simply not feeling at ease with representations of such anatomy/activity): the V4 in your runtime could even never appear undressed or indulge in intimacy, she should all the same be gifted of Lali bits, just for the possibilities it represents. It's really a big difference between not doing something because you're "materially" unabled to do it and not doing something because you choose not to do it, but still having the chance to do it... Just if.. Hypothetical possibility fosters imagination and imagination is still one of the best ways - as odd as it at first could appear - to copy with reality, especially when it's an hard one. Virtuality as well is a more positive concept than it's generally considered. But it looks like I went ahead of myself and, after all, everything I wanted to do was to give the deserved praise to the guy who succeded to expand and enrich the - sometimes too narrowminded - Poser related Universe. And, of course, I can't wait to see what an unbelievable mega-sensation the fabled "Project E" will be!! Considering all the fuss actually going on about V7 (maybe I'm just a naive simpleton, but I can't believe people is bloodily fighting about wich 3D program is better than the other...) everybody can cool down: already Lalified V4 had easily the upper hand on G1 & G2 females; Project E will be miles further up (like a "V10" or something, if you're in the "mine is bigger than yours" sort of things).
Hmm. Someone mentioning Dawn. Learn from her mistakes. She came out basically a fixed figure, not a lot that could be dialed in. she's huge, her face, a Martha Raye mouth with the Jokers smile. Such a limited morph "pack" with her that I had her in my computer then dumped her and everything I'd bought with her in about four days. I don't know how long before additional morphs were available, once I'd dumped her out, I didn't bother even looking.
Detailed gens aren't something that's make or break for me, but the ability to have at least the groove would have been nice. No chance with Dawn, nothing there to even set a magnet for.
Or, please don't release PE without a decent set of morphs.

Wow. What a profoundly flattering paragraph man! Thank you! I don't know what else to say other than that it was a great pleasure to see everyone enjoy the bits, even if I sometimes struggled to keep up with the customer support. I can only hope that Project E will deliver the same amount of pleasure (and a proper helpdesk)! thanks once again! PS: thank you, again
PSS: that bit about leaving the bits attached and dialed in under their clothes, yep! I do that too in my comics. It just makes them a little more 'real'.

Hehe well if you know Lali's Bits, you know I am quite capable of morph overkill ;D this time I'm going to split it up into morph packs though, because some morph packs might not be interesting for some people. Then you can choose what to inject.

we had a lengthy exchange of emails when you just released Lali.
I was among the first to buy her.
Lali is a beautiful work, I love her.

I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

Except she wasn't even a good try. Only a partial effort. A decent morph pack at the time of release would have made all the difference. Even Alyson, as bad as the out of the box figure is has enough morphs she can be made to look pretty good. Which doesn't help her bending any, but I can work with that. I can use the morph tool to crash a Lexus and make it look halfway like it was a fatality, but don't ask me to work on a figure, that's where the brain goes into "Huh?" mode. And I was being polite in my description, I don't think you want to know what I really thought.

hehehe yeah I remember you. Thanks for your support all these years. Trust me if I could release her now, I would. Its time we invest in ourselves and come up with our own figure and content and wish DAZ good luck with their future endeavors. Likewise I'm going to try and invest in stores that support Poser content from now on, no sense in investing in something that might contribute to the downfall of my software of choice. I really hope Nerd3D can iron out the kinks over at Poser, and I hope he gets them to take their heads out of their asses and come with a good figure too, it would take the pressure off me. Despite this, I will try to make PE available for DS because I have too many friends that use DS.
So about the figure, as you can imagine, making a figure is no joke, especially for someone that's never made one before lol! But what's taking so long is software bugs, which are getting worked on. Project E is such an intricate figure that it revealed some nasty bugs in both Poser and DS that hamper the making of accurate JCMs. Also, Poser's WM transfer is not up to standard. So I'm waiting until that gets improved.
In the meanwhile I continued with her development and she's more-or-less complete, but the JCMs are asymmetrical as a result of finding a workaround. Besides that I've been using her since october 2014 and I've racked up a list of improvements that I need to do before I can start on her final development phase. Improvements involve polygons that are not placed nicely, too many, or too few, UV maps that need redoing, etc.
My primary goal here is to make a figure that will last me for the next 4-6 years. Therefore you understand she needs to be perfect, and forwards compatible in as far as that is possible. I also need to keep in mind that Poser might switch to dual quaternion skinning and I'm taking to people what kind of preparations I need to make for that.
"The fool is not the one that does something foolish, but the one that does nothing at all."
I've always got the feeling Project E was going to be figure that would finally make a lot of the figure-critics very happy.
BTW, do you sell a light kit? The lighting you use on your renders looks great.

thanks for the vote of confidence hornet.
The problem with making her compatible with V4 is that it requires DAZ's written permission to use V4's rig. Without their permission you will be violating DAZ's EULA because you are using a part of V4 (her rig) to create a competing figure. The only time V4's rig can be used is when creating add-on content for V4. It's not difficult to make your own rig. Why go to all the trouble of building a completely new figure and risk being shut down by DAZ for using their proprietary content in your figure? The same is true with the UV maps as far as I'm aware.
This was tried some years ago with another figure, and was quickly shut down.
Not trying to cause any drama here, just attempting to save you some headaches. A new figure has to be entirely its own or be in agreement with the owners of the content it's borrowing pieces from.
Poser Place's V4WM uses a different rig from V4, (except for the fingers and toes, which aren't included in the distributed rigging) and yet is compatible with V4 clothing using the Outfitter utility. It tends to be used with V4's cr2, but it doesn't have to be. That rig is freely distrubutable.
There are plenty of remaps of various figures available, some for sale. At most the V4 version would need to be RTEncoded against V4...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."hey guys. yeah PE will undoubtedly have her own shape and rigging. The whole V4 compatibility thing is still not 100% how that will work, but that is a priority for me. Just about all my content is V4. It would ideally be an FBM, UV maps, and animated joint centers (like what genesis does). The actual WM or zones would be different but with Poser (and perhaps DS) that is easily transferred. I doubt that the joint centers and the UV maps are a problem because like wandw said there are already many alternate versions that seemed to have been accepted. So the only problem would be the topology, I think.
then again, I wish DAZ luck finding me here in the african bush lol
But these are the questions I'm now trying to address before I get started on the final development phase, which btw might be starting sooner than I thought. There seems to be a breakthrough with the JCM problem! whii
btw: nDelphi - my lights are dead simple, a lot of my renders just have one infinite light off to the side (as the sun). I think what you're looking for is materials and render settings. I can share my render settings but the materials is a bit of a long story. I'd have to make a tutorial for that, which I do have planned... after PE hehe

Yeah, what was I thinking. It's more than just the lighting.

I am not particularly fond of the "free to play" economic model DAZ uses where a base figure requires DLC just to be minimum useful. I would have paid $10 more for Victoria 4 to get Morphs++ bundled with her because she's impractical without that package (remember, it includes basic expression dials, not just FBMs).
Price Project E fairly but include robust functionality, don't make expressions, general head morphs or the basic FBMs an add-on.
An optional deluxe package can bring additional content like texture maps, basic clothing (matching those FBMs), one hair model, magnets to refit V4 hair to PE, props, poses and expressions and it'll still be a hot seller because we know you made them for the figure. Sell it as an add-on and charge 10% less for buying it as a bundle with PE.
The key to getting people to leave behind one figure for a new one is:
After that point the rest is just frosting on the cake.

While nothing is set in stone, my vision of Project E is simple: I come with a free (or at least very cheap, preferably free) base mesh and at least one FBM and a few basic expressions for people to see what its all about. I do kindof expect people to be mature about this and understand that its not all free-for-all type stuff, and that this is a serious product. A lot of work is going into this. If you don't understand the base mesh, then you shouldn't dick around with P.E and stick to V4 or V6 or whatever is easiest. But I want to give people the opportunity to see the possibilities, without any obligations, and then if they think its something they can work with, they can financially invest further in all sorts of relevant morph packs. I agree that it would be best to provide these morph packs at the time of release, and that's what I will do to the best of my ability.
I will stress that people should not compare this to DAZ's Genesis figures, or any other figures for that matter. Project E is a figure that has been designed to work for my comics, and is tailored for supporting an artist that knows the deal when it comes to complex CG figures. Off course I will try my best to provide a multitude of options to get whatever result you desire, but like Lali's Bits, and all other pre-fab CGI products out there, P.E. is still subject you your ability to manipulate it to get a nice result. I just hope it will be able to make it more enjoyable for you!
But let me first get the girl working properly!!!! Ive been diddling around with shoulder all this week... not even started with JCMs...

Lovely work! Just stunning!
I think you're taking the best approach as well - working from what YOU find pleasing and useful will result in a figure that is useful. Don't model and rig via committee. It never ends well - use your skills and you'll have a fantastic figure.
I'd like to volunteer to make freebie clothing for her release, so when you get to that place, will you tell us how to sign up to help you?
Drools..... Must follow.... Other figure makers are going to be getting a run for their money with this girl for sure. :D
Have a creative day!
