Description
The Black Death was a devastating global epidemic of bubonic plague that struck from Asia through to Europe and northern Africa in the mid-1300s. The plague arrived in Europe in October 1347, when 12 ships from the Black Sea docked at the Sicilian port of Messina.
It is thought that some 200 million died in this epidemic. Considering the vast area of the Earth that was affected, the number of deaths is probably higher. The plague not only affected humans...it struck other animals as well--cows, pigs, sheep, chickens... So many sheep perished that there was a wool shortage in Europe during this period. Guess one could look at this "event" as nature's way to do some housekeeping...

Wow, a creepy and really scary scene and history. I hope people out there pay attention to facts like these. This girl looks so sad and ill and the blue mists add a lot of drama to this cemetery scene.

And like this specter, the plague still haunts this world ready to unleash its horrors on us if we would just drop our guard for a moment. Something we seem perilously close to doing by elevating ignorance in the name of liberty. Beware of "leaders" who spout the word 'choice' in every sentence.
